Graphic Art & Design

Graphic designers find ways to effectively communicate products and services for companies and businesses. They use computer software and applications to artistically create and design visual solutions to communication problems. Graphic designers develop the layout of magazines, newspapers, company mailings and other print media. They also design and distribute graphics and layouts for web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects.

Graphic designers generally hold a bachelor's degree in graphic design or fine arts. An associate degree in graphic design is sometimes adequate for employers. Creativity, communication, and problem solving skills are important, as is a familiarity with computer graphics and design software.

Most graphic designers work in specialized design services such as advertising and printing services. Some designers do freelance work, full or part time, in addition to holding full time jobs in design or another occupation.

As a graphic designer, you can expect to:

  • Design and create content for online and print media.
  • Work closely with art directors and clients
  • Enjoy interesting, challenging work
